മൃഗയയും പുലിമുരുഗനും പോലെയുള്ള സിനിമകൾ കാണുമ്പോൾ തോന്നുന്നത് സ്വന്തക്കാരെ കൊല്ലുന്ന മൃഗങ്ങളെ വേട്ടയാടുന്ന നായകന് പകരം മൃഗങ്ങളുടെ ഹാബിറ്റാറ്റ് നഷ്ടപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന വന കൈയേറ്റങ്ങൾക്ക് എതിരെ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന നായകൻ ആയിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ,  ഹീറോയിസം കണ്ടു ആവേശം കൊള്ളുന്ന പുതുതലമുറക്ക് കിട്ടുന്ന സന്ദേശം കൂടുതൽ കൃത്യവും പ്രയോജനപ്രദവും ആയിരുന്നേനെ.

OK, so he gave me a Parker pen. He must have sought his dad's help, hence the Parker. And he could not sleep with excitement, so gave it at 12 midnight itself. Kutty gave two roses, which she took from the ones Ramesh had bought.

Raman is the most happy-go-lucky of the lot. He was not bothered about all these, and he slept off.  But in the morning when he saw the gifts that the other two had given, he also wanted to give something. So he brought a small box to me. I was surprised and opened it to find a single earring, one of Kutty's. 'Where is its pair?' I asked. 'It doesn't have a pair, it's single' He said. 'How can an earring come as single?' I asked again. 'Earring? Oh I didn't know it was an earring', he said without slightest botheration and it was so very funny, the way he said it, that we all laughed out hard.

My son and my birthday

മൂന്നു ദിവസം മുമ്പ് രമേശിന്റെ (my husband) ബർത്ഡേ ആയിരുന്നു. അത് കാര്യമായി ആഘോഷിക്കാൻ പറ്റിയില്ല, ഞങ്ങൾ ഇന്നലെ പൂർത്തിയാക്കേണ്ട ഒരു ജോലിയുടെ തിരക്കിൽ ആയിരുന്നു.  നാളെ എന്റെ ബർത്ഡേ ആണ്. കുട്ടികൾ മൂന്നുപേരും (7 വയസ്സുകാർ) ഉത്‍സാഹത്തിൽ ആണ്. ഏറ്റവും ഇളയവൻ ബാലു ആണ് ഏറ്റവും ഉത്സാഹത്തിൽ. ഈ വെക്കേഷന് കുട്ടികൾ വീട്ടിലെ ചെറിയ ജോലികൾ ചെയ്യുന്നുണ്ട്- തുണി അടുക്കി വെക്കുക, മുറി വൃത്തിയാക്കുക മുതലായവ. അതിനു പ്രതിഫലം കൊടുക്കുന്ന അഞ്ചു രൂപ , പത്തു രൂപ ഒക്കെ കുടുക്കയിൽ ഇട്ടു വെക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. വിഷുക്കൈനീട്ടം ബന്ധുക്കൾ തന്നത് കൂട്ടിയാൽ കുടുക്കയിൽ തെറ്റില്ലാത്ത സംഖ്യ ഉണ്ടാകും. എന്നാൽ കഴിഞ്ഞ ആഴ്ച ബാലു വളരെയധികം ജോലി ചെയ്തു. കുറെ തുണികൾ ഒക്കെ മടക്കി വെച്ചു, മുറി അടിച്ചു വാരി. ഞാൻ ഇരുപതു രൂപ വീതം ദിവസവും കൊടുത്തു. ഒരു ദിവസം ബെഡ്ഷീറ്റും മറ്റും അടുക്കാൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത് കൊണ്ട് അവനു ഒറ്റക്ക് പറ്റിയില്ല. അവൻ അച്ഛനെ സബ് കോൺട്രാക്ട് വിളിച്ചു. ബെഡ്ഷീറ്റ് മടക്കിക്കൊടുത്തപ്പോൾ അവന്റെ ഇരുപതു രൂപയിൽ നിന്ന് പത്തുരൂപ അച്ഛന് കൊടുത്തു അവൻ. 😀.
എന്നിട്ട് ഇന്ന് ഞാൻ കേൾക്കാതെ അച്ഛനോട് പറഞ്ഞു അമ്മക്ക് ഗിഫ്റ്റ് വാങ്ങാൻ പോകണം എന്ന്. അവന്റെ സ്വന്തം പൈസയിൽ നിന്ന്! അങ്ങനെ അച്ഛനും മോനും പോയി വൈകിട്ട്. എനിക്ക് ഇതറിയാം എന്ന് അവനു അറിയില്ല. ഐസ്ക്രീം തിന്നാൻ പോകുന്നു എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞാണ് പോയത്. തിരിച്ച് വന്നപ്പോൾ കയ്യിൽ പൊതി ഒന്നും കണ്ടില്ല..എവിടെയോ ഒളിപ്പിച്ചു വെച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഗിഫ്ട് തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുന്ന ഫോട്ടോ രമേശ് അയച്ചു തന്നു. പക്ഷെ എന്ത് വാങ്ങി എന്നറിയില്ല എനിക്ക്.
നാളെ നോക്കാം... എന്ത് കിട്ടി, എന്തൊക്കെ ഉണ്ടായി എന്ന് നാളെ പറയാം...😇

Life is beautiful

It has been a long time... Many things happened in the last 3-4 years and I will update all that gradually. For now, I shall start with today. April 30th was Ramesh's Birthday, and we did not have much celebrations. We were busy with a presentation we had to deliver yesterday. Tomorrow is my birthday. All three kids (now 7+) are excited. But youngest, Balu, is most excited. The kids help us by doing little chores around the house, and sometimes we pay them Rs.10/- or so, and they keep that in their piggy bank. Balu is most industrious, and he is trying to save up for a tab that he wants to buy. He has added 'Vishu Kaineettam' (the money given by elders on Vishu day, it is part of the festival) also to this amount. But for the previous one week, he had been working real hard, folding clothes, sweeping the floor. He loves doing it, and I allow it as it is vacation now. And I pay him Rs.20/- everyday. (Once he had too many clothes to fold, bed sheets included, so he asked Ramesh to help him. Ramesh folded the bedsheets, and Balu paid himRs.10/-, from the Rs.20/- I gave him! Like a sub contract! We laughed hard when he did that with a naughty smile on his face 😀😀).

So yesterday, he approached Ramesh and softly asked (so I would not hear) to help him buy a Birthday gift for me. With his own money. Ramesh agreed.

So today father and son went to get the gift. He doesn't know that I know he was going for that. He said he was going with dad to have an ice cream. His face was so lit up! And came back after a while. I haven't seen the package. He was writing a note also, hidden with his hand and all..
